The number of invalid ballots at the parliamentary polls held in April 25 is estimated at around 83,000. As he introduced the list of 140 new lawmakers of the Albanian parliament, the State Election Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi said that there is an ongoing investigation on what led to so many invalid votes.

During his word, Celibashi claimed that there wouldn’t have been so many invalid votes if the ballot paper would have the names of the candidates, instead of numbers.

“I don’t want to prophesize, but in my assessment, if the ballot paper would have been with names, perhaps we would have a different situation”, said Celibashi.

The head of CEC called on political subjects to participate in the ongoing inquiry to determine why there were 83,000 invalid votes.

Albanians voted not also for the political party but also for a candidate, a first in the country.

“For the DP, 76.71% of the voters also choose a candidate, while for the SP it is at 74.75%”, confirmed Celibashi.
