Chief Negotiator on Albania’s first IGC meets Slovakian State Secretary on Foreign Affairs

On Friday, Albania’s chief negotiator with the European Union, Zef Mazi, met with Martin Klus, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic at the Prime Minister’s Office.

The main topic of their discussion was the ongoing process as well as undertaking the next steps on Albania’s EU path.

During the meeting, Albania’s chief negotiator expressed his gratitude for Slovakia’s support as well as the need to accelerate integrating processes be that for Albania, but also for other Western Balkans countries, as a trend “that should not fade away”.

Mazi also described all the tasks that have been duly completed by Albania as per the Council Conclusions dated March 2020.

Meanwhile, State Secretary Klus praised Albania for undertaking reforms in the field of justice, fundamental freedoms as well as fight against organized crime.

He underlined that the justice reform is the “most complete” reform conducted in this spectrum by an EU candidate country.

At the end of their meeting chief negotiator Mazi and State Secretary Klus agreed to launch Albania’s first Intergovernmental Conference (IGC) with the European Union.

They also agreed to set up bilateral technical cooperation in several fields where Slovakia holds the necessary expertise.

State Secretary Klus also invited chief negotiator Mazi on an official visit to Slovakia in May.
