The Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs will review today a request made by 50 lawmakers from the Socialist majority to launch procedures for the impeachment of the President of Republic Ilir Meta.
Socialist MPs are calling for the establishment of an inquiry commission that will investigate whether the President has violated the Constitution, as it is being alleged.
Six days ago, fifty Socialist lawmakers signed the request paper that was later submitted to the Assembly, while on Friday the plenary session is set to approve the composition of the inquiry commission.
According to the Socialist majority, declarations made by President Ilir Meta prior to and during the electoral campaign are in violation of the Constitution.
After examination, the request will then be passed on to the Legal Affairs Committee which will set up an inquiry commission to probe into the allegations.
However, it will be the Constitutional Court that will have a final say on the matter.
