Albania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Olta Xhaçka declared during a joint press conference with her Austrian counterpart Karoline Edstadler that Albania has fulfilled all the conditions and that the EU membership process must go ahead forward.

“Albania is following closely the discussions with the EU on easing travel restrictions with the bloc countries as well as we are creating vaccine passports. That is why I brought the attention to the need to relieve as much as possible the hurdles for our region which is a part of Europe and integrated into EU’s internal market and a part of preparations for membership”, she said.

Minister Xhaçka also mentioned the first Inter-Governmental Conference and underlined that it is now the EU’s turn to assess the country’s achievement.

“We share the same assessment with the colleague that the membership of Western Balkans states to the EU must be accelerated. We have fulfilled all the conditions outlined by the Council for holding the first Inter-Governmental Conference”, said the Albanian chief of diplomacy.

The Federal Minister for the EU and the Constitution of the Republic of Austria, Karoline Edstadler, praised the electoral process during her word at the joint press conference.

She also recognized that Albania has worked hard in its path to the European Union and reiterated the support to further strengthen bilateral ties.
