Analyst Andi Bushati predicts that the third mandate of Prime Minister Edi Rama is heading towards more authoritarianism, as shown by his first moves following triumph at the polls.
“There will be more arrogance and authoritarianism will strengthen further. The first sign, right after certifying victory, was creating an inquiry commission to impeach the president. Also, the attempts to seize the bodies controlling the media, are another dose to increase authoritarianism”, Bushati added.
But analyst Baton Haxhiu thought the opposite as according to him Rama’s administration in the next four years will display “high responsibility” and “focus on achieving some of its main projects for the development of the country”.
“It will be the mandate of utmost responsibility. The doors of the negotiations will open, and when you cross that way you also have some responsibilities. The objective is becoming an energetic superpower in the Balkans,” Haxhiu said as he went on to list some of the main projects promised by PM Rama, “three ports, the Vlora airport, the Adriatic highway, the tunnel in Saranda and Llogara and then the Arber Highway terminating before the end of the mandate”.
According to Bushati, Rama’s increased stronghold on power will not translate into a stronger economy as he paralleled the situation with Turkey and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“You must be very optimistic to believe in the dream of a man and his entourage that failed to do that for 8 years. Look at Erdogan, the more the regime headed toward authoritarianism the less successful it has been. It is difficult for me to accept the thesis that capitalism develops without a democracy”, concluded Bushati.
