The Prime Minister of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev has once again pointed his finger towards the union and blaming it for the deadlock in the integration process.

Zaev recalled that Skopje has been waiting on Brussels to keep its word for decades, while in the meantime the county has fulfilled all the conditions. But on another note, he expressed optimism that a bilateral deal with Bulgaria is achievable.

“Europe is guilty, it owes us a lot. In 2001, we signed the agreement ahead of Croatia, while now Croatia is celebrating its anniversary in the EU. There are no dilemmas. I am always sending this message. We will have to see what will be agreed upon from presidents Radev and Pendarovski at the Vatican. I believe in a positive epilogue”, declared PM Zaev.

Furthermore, foreign minister Bujar Osmani reiterated that both governments are working intensively based on the proposals made by the Portuguese EU presidency and that the main objective is reinstating mutual trust.

“For us, June is the main opportunity and aim in resolving this dispute”, said Osmani.

Earlier on, the two heads of states have exchanged positive messages on a potential solution, while assuring that both Bulgaria and North Macedonia are able to solve the matter between themselves, without the intervention of the international community.
