Many businesses have faced an immense struggle because of the market contraction and the situation imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it seems that the building sector in our country isn’t experiencing any slowdown, on the contrary it has seen considerable growth compared to the previous year.
According to data gathered by INSTAT, during the first trimester of the year, construction permits for new buildings have reached 251. During the same period last year, only 184 building permits were issued. Therefore, this year the number of permits has seen a 36.4% growth.
When looking at the distribution across the country, Tirana is ranked first, issuing more than 72 permits, followed by Durres with 44 and Fier and Lezha with 26 permits each. Dibra is the county with the least construction activity, issuing only 3 building permits in the first trimester of 2021.
The surface area that these buildings are expected to cover is estimated to be around 599.466 m2, or 79.7% more than the same period last year.
The largest surface area will be built in the capital city, where the permits can be translated to 442.152 m2, followed by Lezha with 86.447 m2.
The monetary value of these permits is 26.6 billion ALL, or around €215 billion euros, which is nearly double the value of permits given during the same period, last year.
Yet again, the highest value is registered in Tirana with 15.6 billion ALL or €127 million euros, followed by Durres with €20 million euros and Vlora with around €18 million euros.
