The President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti unveiled their vision and expectations from the dialogue with Serbia as they met with top EU and US officials, Miroslav Lajcak and Matthew Palmer.
President Osmani highlighted the importance of territorial integrity and domestic constitutional and state regulations.
“We expect the process to conclude with a reciprocal recognition, by respecting these principles, and an entirely binding agreement”, said Osmani, while adding that the matter of missing people during the war must also be considered as of an utmost priority.
According to an official statement released from the president’s office, Lajcak and Palmer “reiterated once again their full support on the dialogue process and its conclusion with a final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia”.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Kurti stressed that EU-US coordination at the process is welcomed, describing it as “essential”.
Kosovo’s PM affirmed that he will meet with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic by mid-June to resume the talks which according to him should be a “new chapter” with both states entering the process “as equal parties”.
“The solution must be must be mutual recognition”, said Kurti.
On Monday, deputy assistant secretary Mattew Palmer met with opposition parties who had earlier called on the US to take on a more important role in the dialogue.
The dialogue aimed at normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia began in 2011, but it has been disrupted several times.
