Agreement reached in meeting between State Secretary Blinken and PM Rama

The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama met today in Brussels in a meeting that concluded with a deal for the bilateral coordination for the use of 5G technology between the two states.

Secretary Blinken referred to Albania as a “partner and ally” of the United States and that through this agreement PM Rama is giving “a good example” to other countries.

“I think we’re setting a very strong example together here today, on the need to make sure that when it comes to the most sensitive technology that we have, we’re working with trusted vendors and I think particularly important now and a strong message to send to others” declared the US State Secretary.

“We are really grateful for the work the United States and Albania have been able to do together in so many different areas, including Defender 21 exercises. We’re very much looking forward to you assuming your seat on the United Nations Security Council”, he added.

During his word, the head of the Albanian executive said that Albania is “proud” to stand alongside the United States and described the agreement as “an important moment”.

“For me, and us in Albania, it’s a very important moment because as I believe you know we have undertaken this initiative from our side for some years and we’ve been asking also the other countries in the region to join and to put all together our efforts for a secure path of communication and to put this path of communication of very critical service in the hand of Albania and the institutions of our security forces and not allow that this is may be compromised by third actors that sometimes are malign”, said the Albanian prime minister.

Earlier on the US Department of State announced that a meeting will take place today between State Secretary Antony Blinken and Prime Minister Edi Rama at 5:30 PM.

Albanian PM Rama will attend the NATO summit in Brussels, alongside other member state leaders.

The meeting was confirmed on the official website of the State Department.

The NATO summit will convene Monday morning with the General Secretary, Jens Stoltenberg holding the word first.
