The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has nominated Jeffrey M. Hovenier as US Ambassador to Kosovo.
The announcement was made on the official website of the White House.
Hovenier, who is expected to replace the current ambassador Kosnet, has a long career as a diplomat of foreign affairs and has been part of the staff of the United Nations Special Envoy for Kosovo status.
Hovenier is currently the Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in Ankara, Turkey.
He has also served at the US Embassy in Berlin as well as US missions in Croatia, Greece, Panama, Paraguay and Peru.
In Washington he has served as Director of Central and South East Europe Affairs at the National Security Council and at the State Department Bureau for European and Eurasian Affairs with responsibility for NATO and Central European Affairs.
His nomination must be confirmed by the US Senate.
In June 2018, the former President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi decorated the diplomat Hovenier with the Presidential Jubilee Medal of the Tenth Anniversary of Independence.
While the American diplomat, Jeffrey Hovenier, stated that the American position has always been in support of the freedom and independence of Kosovo.
