The situation in the southern part of the country has seen a slight improvement on Wednesday, while the government claims that there are strong suspicions of “deliberate fires”.

Defense minister Niko Peleshi told the media that 10 outbreaks were recorded in a single day in Gjirokastra. He said to have addressed the issue to interior minister Çuçi, who in turn had responded that there were “strong suspicions of deliberate fires”.

Peleshi accused the opposition, as well as their affiliated news outlets, of planting “a hysteria against the people at the front of the fires” and emphasized that 4 people had been detained.

“If there are any experts out there that know better than these men how to extinguish the fires, feel welcomed to come to help us”, Peleshi said.

“Citizens should not see denouncing those that intentionally lit the fire as spying on them but as a civil duty”, he added.

Speaking from Vlora, minister Peleshi also confirmed what sources had told Euronews Albania earlier on over air from the Netherlands.

“The Netherlands has responded in a very generous way last evening”, Peleshi said, while explaining that it is not known yet how many forces will be dispatched.
