SPAK confirmed that it has launched an investigation into the demolition of the National Theater last May.
In its official letter sent to the Democratic Party, it clarified that the two lawsuits deposited to the Special Prosecution have been added together and an investigation is being carried on “abuse of office”.
SPAK emphasized that at the moment the case in its early phases, but guaranteed that it conducting a thorough investigation, but it cannot provide any further details due to confidentiality.
Apart from a lawsuit filed by the Democratic Party, there is another standing one deposited by the Alliance for the Protection of the Theater.
In its lawsuit, the Democratic Party listed 10 criminal offenses, which according to them were committed during the demolition as well as during procedures when the property was passed from the culture ministry to the municipality of Tirana.
The National Theater was demolished in the early hours of May 17, 2020, amid wide public controversy and massive protests that ensued for several days.
