As of December 2021, Wizz Air will be adding Liverpool, Madrid, Oslo and Billund to its flight connections to and from Tirana, Albania.
In addition, the new deal with Rinas airport included a rise in the number of flights to existing destinations.
President of ‘Kastrati Group’, Shefqet Kastrati, who currently owns and operates the Rinas airport, spoke to Euronews Albania about his future ambitions.
“For the month of July, we experienced the highest influx in all of Europe. We believe that August, September and October will also follow in these tracks. Every day, we are seeing some of the best companies in the world come to sign deals and contracts with us. Very soon, we will be the leaders in the region. According to our experts as well as international ones, within a 3-year timeframe, we are expected to reach 10 million passengers per year,” says Shefqet Kastrati, president of ‘Kastrati Group’.
During the first 6 months of 2021, over 1 million passengers departed from the Rinas airport. July 2021 recorded a higher number of flights compared to the same time last year and in 2019, right before the pandemic. In turn, Shefqet Kastrati spoke on his future investments in this airport.
“We will begin with the reconstruction of the runway as well as by adding more parking space and a new terminal. Our current estimate exceeds 100 million euros,” said Kastrati.
The Kastrati Group aims to auction out its companies’ shares in the stock market in the near future. Whereas, ‘Wizz Air’ is planning to increase the number of airplanes currently available in Albania.
‘Wizz Air’ began operating in Albania back in 2017. In 2020, it launched its local branch, which ended up becoming the largest in the region.
