Former PM Sali Berisha called DP’s stance in regards to his non-grata declaration by the United States, “the appropriate response”.

During his interview with Erla Mehilli on Euronews Albania, Berisha stated that DP has been asking for transparency regarding the accusations raised by the US Department of State against him and his close family.

“I believe the Democratic Party acted accordingly and has been asking for transparency. In order for DP to take action against someone, in this case, against Sali Berisha, DP needs to have facts, documents and evidence. In their absence, there is nothing else, the DP can do or should do” said Berisha

Since July, the US has been making multiple calls, through the embassy in Tirana, for Berisha to distance himself from the Democratic Party, asking for his resignation as MP in the next parliament.

‘I will be sitting in parliament on Friday, in full compliance with the free will of the people – Berisha

Another important remark made by Sali Berisha on Euronews Albania’s NOW, was his confirmation of that fact that he will be in Friday’s plenum, which will mark the beginning of the new legislature.

“I don’t hide behind the mandate,” – said Berisha.

Berisha continued by saying that the will of the people is expressed with their vote, which is why he said that “under no circumstances, will he step on the sovereignty of Albanian citizens”.
