During the joint press conference, federal chancellor Angela Merkel defended the Berlin Process as an initiative that “has not failed”.
PM Rama emphasized that the climate in the Western Balkans is “better than it has ever been”, although criticized the slow pace of the integration process.
But according to the German chancellor, there are many ongoing processes, hence it cannot be deemed as a failure.
Merkel recalled the establishment of youth exchange networks as well as scientific exchanges on a regional level among the six countries.
Since the time that Rama and Vucic met many things have changed, according to Merkel, considering that both leaders had never met before.
‘Perhaps some things require more time than necessary when it comes to planning procedures, maybe even the European Union is not as fast as it should be in that direction, but many things are on the right path’, said Merkel.
‘Even the conflicts inherited from many years ago, have more reconciliation chances thanks to the Berlin Process’, Rama said.
‘In the entire region’s history, Angela Merkel has laid a milestone for the generations to come,’ he added.
