Albania will use all international mechanisms to make sure that the whole world knows about the ethnic cleansing of Kosovo Albanians at the hand of the Serbian army.

This was the bold statement made by the Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Lindita Nikolla during an official visit to Prishtina.

Nikolla met her homolog Glauk Konjufca, who asked her whether or not Kosovo, who isn’t a UN member, could have Albania’s support in filing a genocide lawsuit against Serbia, to which Nikolla replied by saying that, “Albania will intensify its existing mechanisms and make use of all possible international organisms that it’s a member of, in order to let the entire world know about all that Serbia’s done to Kosovo, their war crimes and their genocide,” – declared Nikolla.

In addition, she said that both countries need to intensify efforts in terms of achieving mutual recognition, while also lifting the visa regime.

Konjufca in turn assserted that more cooperation is needed between the parliaments of Kosovo and Albania.

“We need to work together on all international forums so we can revitalize the process of recognition for Kosovo’s independence, while also cooperating with our allies in order to halt Serbia’s diplomatic offensive, that’s trying to get as many countries to revoke their recognition of Kosovo. At the same time, we should have more interactions with international forums and work more towards making Serbia’s crimes known worldwide and convince the global opinion that Serbia did in fact commit genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, while also hiding wanted criminals for decades,” – said Nikolla.

The Albanian Parliament’s Speaker also gave a statement on Kosovo’s dialogue with Serbia.

She said that Albania commends the reopening of discussions and the coordination provided by our allies, the US and EU.

This was Nikolla’s first official visit as Speaker of Parliament. She declared that she’ll make Albania’s cooperation with Kosovo a priority, while inviting Konjufca on an official visit to Albania, before continuing her trip to Kosovo by meeting PM Albin Kurti and the mayor of Prishtina, Shpend Ahmeti.
