The Special Prosecution Office has asked to sentence the former chair of the Berat Cadaster, Ervin Nelaj, to 3 years in prison.
Nelaj was arrested back in February, over corruption charges related to the approval of construction permits in his city.
After a 9-month investigation, SPAK came to the conclusion that there was reasonable doubt based on conclusive evidence, that Ervin Nelaj, in the position of Director of the Local Directory of the Cadaster in Berat, in collaboration with other employees in this government institution, have agreed on several occasions to receive unlawful financial compensations.
These compensations were received with the aim of conducting actions related to their official duties, including the informal legalizations of building objects and registrations of property titles.
