Lezha PD police officer, Saimir Hoxha has been killed during a drug bust in the city.

Sources close to Euronews Albania affirm that the officer was shot when together with his colleagues, he was searching for narcotics, namely cannabis plants, during an anti-drug operation.

Hoxha was unfortunately not able to make it and gave up on his way to the hospital.

Early signs point to the shooter being a citizen, identified as Aldo Rama, who is said to have opened fire against the officers, after which only Saimir Hoxha was shot.

The police have now surrounded the entire area, and his arrest is only a matter of time.

RENEA special forces have also headed to the scene, including FNSH groups and a special investigation unit from the General Directory of the State Police.
