Police have officially confirmed that officer, Saimir Hoxha was killed after receiving 2 gunshots, at the hand of 21-year-old, Aldi Rama in Vain, Lezha Island.
Present in the scene during this tragic event, were 3 police officers, 2 civilians and one member of the police wearing a yellow vest.
The police report notes that this patrol team had burned down 62 narcotic plants and while leaving the scene, around 500 meters away, they had stopped a car type ‘Volkswagen’, where they’d find the shooter sitting in the back seat and two other young man that are now in custody, Armando Marku and Kristjan Sherri.
After stepping out of the vehicle, they had responded to the officers’ order to perform a frisk search, to which Aldi Rama had replied by uttering – ‘You shouldn’t search me’.
At that moment, he had taken out his gun, type TT and fired twice in the direction of the police officer, severely injuring him – stated the police report.
Two civilians had tried to stop the vehicle from driving away rapidly by using their service guns.
Aldi Rama had abandoned the car and left running on foot, only to be found 5 hours later, after a difficult manhunt.
The report said that after being found Hoxha had resisted arrest, prompting police to perform crisis negotiation techniques with him for 45 minutes, which unfortunately ended with the 21-year-old shooting himself in the head.
The shooter was sent to the hospital of Lezha immediately, after which he had to be transferred to Tirana’s Trauma Hospital, where he wasn’t able to make it and eventually died.
