Homages to deputy commissioner Saimir Hoxha are currently being paid at the Palace of Congress in Tirana.

Saimir Hoxha was killed yesterday, while on duty, during an anti-cannabis police operation in the city of Lezha.

Thousands of police officers, officials, and political figures gathered to honor the 45-year-old, who has been given a title of honor, by being declared a Martyr of the Nation.

Former high-ranking officials of the police were also present during the tributes, amongst whom Agron Kulicaj, Aleks Hajdari, Erzen Bracani, etc. Homages are expected to last until 15:00.

The tragic incident took place on Tuesday morning, in Lezha Island, where Aldi Rama 21, fired his gun at police officer Saimir Hoxha, from inside his car, when the 45-year-old and his patrol team had stopped him and asked to conduct a search.

After a difficult 5-hour manhunt, the police found the perpetrator, who ended up dying from a self-inflicted gunshot.
