Sali Berisha was in Shkodra on Friday, as part of his nationwide meet-and-greet with supporters of the Democratic Party.
The main reason behind the meetings, according to the former prime minister is to “restore the Democratic Party’s previous values”, and began shortly after the party’s leader Lulzim Basha ousted Berisha from DP’s parliamentary group.
Sali Berisha said that the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama has been discriminating against the city of Shkodra, claiming “to him (PM Edi Rama), the north doesn’t exist”.
He also accused the government of being reaching a stalemate in the country’s path to the EU.
“Albania has turned into the black sheep of the region and of Europe”, declared Berisha.
Berisha also accused Rama that he founded the Open Balkan to thwart the Berlin Process.
However, Berisha also blamed the opposition for Rama’s third term in office, claiming that the only victory of the latter has been the decriminalization law.
“The Albanian opposition has jumped from one failure to another”, he said.
