216 homes were robbed in the capital during 2020, in addition to more than 100 in this year only, according to official figures from the State Police.
Euronews Albania learned that the most targeted areas in Tirana, where nearly 70% of burglaries tend to take place, starting from “Kodra e Diellit”, “Liqeni i Thate”, the area near “Fresku”, the neighborhood of “Astiri”, as well as “Don Bosko” and “Lapraka”.

Sources near the police confirmed that these are the most sought-after areas due to their dense and combined population, where neighbors do not know each other, as well as external factors such as bad street lighting and lack of security cameras.
According to the police, robbers take advantage that many times homeowners forget to lock their doors when leaving their homes.
On average, the police have carried arrests for some 50% of burglaries reported, with the majority of the perpetrators caught for a second time for the same offense. Many times, the perpetrators are minors since they benefit from more lenient sentences due to their age.
In total, there were 1,500 police reports filed for robberies in 2021, including houses, private businesses, and vehicles.
