During the conference, Ribeiro also spoke about the media agency established by the government and emphasized that it’s a model being applied in many countries, however it must not undermine the access that journalists have in acquiring information. On the anti-defamation package, the OSCE representative said that the Venice Commission’s opinion must come out first.
“We are witnesses of the abuses that threaten journalism and deprive the public of the information. All these problems deserve attention. We need to promote independent media and I see an urgent need to support journalists in order to have an independent media”, said Teresa Ribeiro, OSCE representative on media freedom.
During his word, PM Edi Ram said that there is also e need to regulate online media.
“I think that when it comes to online media, freedom of dissemination of this media has somehow undermined freedom of speech at the same time. Truth and lies have become concomitant”, said the head of the Albanian government.
