The Russian Embassy in Tirana has released an official statement, in reaction to the tragic incident that took place two days ago in a hotel in Qerret, where 4 Russian tourists were found dead, in the sauna room.

Through a press release posted on their social media, the Embassy confirmed the death of the four Russian citizens: Natalia Burenkova, Sergey Burenkov, Ekaterina Burenkaya and Nikita Belousov. They also asked Albanian law-enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances that might have led to their tragic death.

“The consular section of the Embassy is in constant contact with the law enforcement agencies of the country and is clarifying the circumstances of the incident. We look forward to a thorough investigation by the Albanian side of the causes of death of the Russian tourists. The relatives of the victims have been notified. The bodies will be repatriated to their homeland,” – said the notice of the embassy forwarded by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The four Russian tourists, 2 men and 2 women were found dead inside a sauna room at a hotel in the area of Qerret, in Kavaja close to the coastal city of Durres.

Preliminary reports point to asphyxiation as the most probable cause of their death – due to them staying in the sauna for too long, but investigations regarding the actual causes of their death are still underway.
