The tragic death of four Russian tourists at a beach resort in the village of Qerret near Kavaja has reached Moscow’s highest authorities.

Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, issued a guideline to the Main Department of Investigation and Forensic Medicine to retrieve more information from Albanian competent authorities and brief him on the circumstances that led to the death of the Russian citizens.

On Friday, four Russian tourists, respectively two women and two men from the same family were found lifeless inside a sauna at a beach resort in the coastal village of Qerret.

Forensics examined their hotel rooms, while an investigative team is awaiting the lab results of the medical examiner.

A preliminary investigation ruled that the cause of death was “asphyxiation” from staying for a long time in the sauna, however, an official statement has still to be released.

The Russian embassy has also demanded a full investigation into the tragic event.
