Democrats walked out of today’s meeting of the Law Commission and Legislations Council, where they were going to discuss the extension of our vetting bodies’ term.
Before ending the meeting abruptly, they are said to have asked SP for more time, to assess their proposals that will subsequently change the Constitution – a request, which was nonetheless rejected by the ruling party, prompting DP’s walkout.
Andi Bushati said on tonight’s ‘Shock’ that DP’s stance on the matter wasn’t Basha acting on principle, but rather it was his attempt to resolve the issue at hand by making ‘deals under the table’.
In order to paint a clearer picture, Bushati said that DP doesn’t stand against the extension of the Vetting term. Instead, he said that Democrats are claiming their own right to change the Constitution by making their own list of proposals on how that can be done.
The reason behind this move, according to Bushati, is the party being under intense pressure from the International Community.
‘If DP sacrificed Sali Berisha, in order to keep good relations with Yuri Kim [US ambassador to Albania], then the sky is the limit’ – said Bushati.
In addition, according to analyst Baton Haxhiu, Sali Berisha is messing with the country’s democratic equilibriums.
“Democracy in our country is slightly more balanced at the moment, but it’s being ‘bitten into’ by Sali Berisha, who is feeling hurt after his non grata designation,” – argued Haxhiu.
