Mehmet Babamusta and Fiqiri Kurti, two elementary schools in Kavaja, are 2 out of a total of 63 schools that are part of the “EU4Schools” program, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP.

The head of the EU delegation to Tirana, Ambassador Luigi Soreca, visited the site along with the representative of UNDP, Monica Merino.

“There could have been no better area to invest in other than education and culture. These areas are the bridge to the future, and today I can see that dream becoming true. I’ve seen these projects in paper, but now we are seeing them become a reality”, the ambassador said.

For Monica Merino, UNDP’s new representative, this was the first visit to a project that has been brought to life.

“I would like to highlight two messages. This program is based on two very important principles: rebuilding back better and together”, she said.

The mayor of the Kavaja Redjan Krali was also present at the event.

Out of the 63 schools, part of the EUS4Schools program, 15 are ready to welcome their students.

Reconstruction consisted in improving the conditions also, as schools now will have larger classrooms, labs, and sports fields.

Several trees were planted at the school’s premises by the end of the visit as a symbol of cooperation.
