A government decision to freeze the price of products encompassed in the basket of goods brought market inspectors to the ground for routine controls amid complaints from citizens.
After several days, inspectors noted some “minor violations”, with only one store in Bitola who had raised the price of several products. Inspectors did not notice any other violations, explaining that some companies did not have a record of what the old prices were so they could not make a comparison.
But even though the Inspectorate concluded that there were no significant violations, citizens are not satisfied with the market prices on the brink of the holiday season.
“Prices have gone up; we cannot bear the costs with the salaries we have. The state said that prices weren’t going to change, but that’s not true”, said a citizen.
“In general, the prices are high. The state must do something about that as this is unbearable”, said another citizen.
“Yes, prices have risen. I am not sure if that came after the government’s decision, but some prices have gone up drastically. The decision to freeze the price is unnoticeable”, he added.
Violations for not complying with the government’s decision may be fined up to €10,000.
