The Special Prosecution has sent a request to the Ministry of Justice to start procedures required for extraditing former general prosecutor Adriatik Llalla.

“The Special Prosecution sent the necessary documentation to the Ministry of Justice for the extradition of Adriatik Llalla from Italy”, said SPAK in its release.

Llalla was arrested in Rome on Monday following an international arrest warrant issued by Interpol Tirana.

The Special Appeal Court sentenced the former prosecutor to 2 years in prison.

Llalla was found guilty of hiding his wealth and not declaring his real assets.

Llalla is Albania’s first senior official to be sentenced to prison. In 2018, he was declared persona non grata by the United States.
