The United States has introduced a new base for their Special Operations Command for Europe known as SOCEUR located in Tirana, Albania.
The Special Operations headquarters will be based in our country in order to ensure increased interoperability between US forces and their Albanian allies, more access to transportation hubs in the Balkans as well as greater logistical flexibility all around.
In SOCEUR’s official announcement on social media, it states that the new location ‘greatly reduces the time needed to travel, while improving the flexibility of special operations and conventional forces in the region,”.
The news was confirmed by the United States Embassy in our country, which cited the Major General and Commander of Europe’s Special Operations Command, David H. Tabor, saying that ‘The ability to rapidly move and train within the Balkans, in close coordination with other allied and partner forces, made Albania the best location for this effort. Albania remains an important NATO Ally and a valued security partner, both regionally and globally.”.
SOCEUR’s main base in Europe is in Patch Barrack, close to Stuttgart, Germany. The main function of this unit is to plan special operations in an effort to increase American military capacities and security in Europe, which play a direct role in protecting the United States and their European partners from outer threats.
