The Bulgarian PM Kiril Petkov, is visiting Skopje today in order to talk about the current dispute between both countries that has been making headlines for some time.

Petkov will be landing at Skopje’s International Airport, where he will be received by Macedonia’s foreign minister, Bujar Osmani, followed by a meeting with PM Dimitar Kovacevski.

The latter will be accompanied by the foreign minister, transportation minister and deputy speaker of Parliament.

During the evening, the Bulgarian PM will be meeting with the Macedonian president and parliament chair.

Petkov has said that he is expecting to see prompt results in terms of taking a new stance and making some progress in regards to the ongoing conflict with Skopje.

Another important topic apart from accession talks, will be the acceptance of a Macedonian minority living in Bulgaria, which has so far been refused by the Bulgarian side.

Bulgaria is using its veto power thus blocking the process of negotiations between the EU and North Macedonia, which has blocked the process of accession for Albania as well.

Disputes around the origins of the Macedonian language, its history and national identity as well as the right of Bulgarians living in North Macedonia have been amongst the main reasons leading up to Bulgaria’s decision to impose a veto against North Macedonia.
