Albania reported 2,832 new coronavirus cases on Monday, the highest ever recorded since the beginning of the pandemic.
Six citizens died on the same day, aged from 59 to 90 taking the official death toll to 3,277.
The country of some 2.838 inhabitants is experiencing a new wave of infections triggered by the highly transmissible Omicron variant as well as end-year festivities.
But despite that, the experts’ committee decided on Thursday to keep in force the same measures, including a night curfew starting at 11 PM, a ban on gatherings of more than 50 people and a mask-wearing mandate on all indoor public spaces.
Active infections rose to 22,022, of which 130 are being treated at the hospital.
More than 236,480 have tested positive for COVID-19 since the outbreak.
