15 children have been admitted to the hospital right now due to a COVID-19 infection. Of all the variants, Omicron is the one that has affected minors the most.

“Cases have gone up 2 to 3 times more than usual in our health clinics and pediatrics,” – said Dr. Valbona Shahini.

The majority of those who have contracted the virus according to doctors are receiving treatment at home, and most of them aren’t taking any antibiotics.

“They’ve suffered from high fever but have been able to recover within 2-3 days,” – said the doctor.

The Institute of Public Health confirmed for Euronews Albania that during all of last year, a total of 4.684 minors were infected in our country.

Some of them have been infected for the second time around with the new Omicron variant, as it has proved to be much more transmissive than the other COVID variants.

‘We’ve also seen children as young as 2 months old, and others who have been reinfected with COVID,’ – added Shahini.

Doctors have admitted that infections will continue to surge until the end of February.

However, despite the fact that the Omicron variant can be less intense compared to other previous variants, the period of self-isolation shouldn’t be less than 10 days.

At the moment, healthcare specialists are worried that not all parents are being responsible in complying with the quarantine rules prescribed by health officials.
