Euronews Albania followed from near a police operation on the prevention of traffic accidents.

As police pulled over several drivers, it appears that the unruliest ones are youngsters, in addition to the many fines issued for abuses with tinted windows.

Increased fines do not seem to have produced the desired effect in improving road safety. Speed, dangerous maneuvers, and races continue to bring the most severe consequences in Albania’s roads.

“We’ve recently seen many road accidents involving human casualties, not just material damages and the main cause is overspeeding, but also driver negligence. The 18-25 age group are the most reckless drivers, perhaps because of their age, or lack of knowledge of the Road Code”, said the chief of the traffic unit, Gerhard Baka.

Another violation that has been on the rise is tinted windows beyond the allowed norms. Tirana’s road authority has acquired a special device that can detect with precision how transparent the car’s windows are.

“In over 95% of the cases that we pulled over, we noticed that our guideline on tinted windows had not been respected, especially in luxury cars produced in recent years”, added Baka.

Another dangerous phenomenon raised by the authorities is cellphone use while driving, with youngsters seen filming the speedometer reaching enormous speed to show it off on social media.
