MPs at the Parliament of Kosovo will be holding an extraordinary plenary session today, to debate the current energy price hikes and a recent warning that citizens’ electricity bills will be affected.
This comes at a time when the Energy Regulatory Office (ZRRE) has announced that it will be reassessing its electricity tariffs.
Last week, ZRRE came out with a set of propositions in regards to the price schemes for electricity. It distinguished between 5 different categories of consumers: A, B, C, D, E.
Categories and billing info:
- In Category A, consuming 300 kW, the current price is €18.87 euros. ZRRE has proposed that this bill be pushed up to €20.40 euros. Through a government subsidy, consumers could still pay the same price – €18.87 euros.
- In Category B, consuming 450 kW at the current price of €27.37 euros, ZRRE has proposed to bring it up to €29.66 euros. Through a government subsidy, consumers could still pay the same price – €27.37 euros.
- In Category C, consuming 600 kW, the current price is 35.86 euros. ZRRE has proposed bringing it up to 38.92 euros. Through a government subsidy, it could remain the same – 35.86 euros.
- In Category D, if 800 kW are consumed over a period of 6 months, the price is set at €47.19 euros. ZRRE has proposed bringing it up to €74.17 euros. Through a government subsidy, the price could be lowered to €59.50 euros.
- In Category E, if 1000 kW are consumed over a 6-month period, the price is currently set at €58.52 euros. ZRRE has proposed bringing it up to €109.42 euros. Through a government subsidy, the price could come down to €83.14 euros.
According to ZRRE, this price hike will only affect Categories D and E, i.e., citizens consuming over 800 kW of power.
ZRRE’s proposal is currently undergoing public consultation. If it gets approved, these changes will be reflected on the citizens’ energy bill for February.
Opposition parties have raised their concerns during last Thursday’s plenum, about the effects these price hikes could have on the state budget and consumers.
