Political subjects have until January 27 to present who will run in the local by-elections for the municipalities of Dibra, Durres, Vora, Rrogozhina, Shkoder, and Lushnje.

The election campaign is set to kick off on March 6.

Electoral subjects can enroll at the Central Election Commission (CEC) from January 28 to January 31 and are expected to receive a confirmation from CEC on March 3 at the latest.

Independent candidates are proposed by the initiating committee after the latter has collected the necessary number of signatures.

These candidates need at least 1% of the electorate of the district they are running for, but no more than 3,000 signatures. An exemption to this rule applies to those candidates who in the past six months held one of the following posts: mayor, deputy mayor, members of the municipal council, or lawmakers.

24 hours after political parties get the green light, comes the turn of coalitions, if there are any. CEC then approves them within the next 24 hours.

Full documentation must be submitted to CEC from 6 to 9 February.

According to the deadlines determined by the Central Election Commission, candidates racing at the mayoral elections will be announced from 9 to 12 February.
