Shkodra, one of the city’s that has predominantly been a stronghold of the Democrats, will most likely turn into a battlefield as the two factions of the Democratic Party face off one another at the local by-elections.
Two candidates have been presented so far, respectively Majlinda Angoni from the Socialists camp and the other is Bardh Spahia, from the coalition formed by Berisha’s faction, SMI, and the Christian Democratic Party.
The Democratic Party has still to decide who will compete under its banner for Shkodra.
Shkodra has been a Democratic stronghold for 31 years.

However, this time will be the first to find the party separated between Berisha and Basha.
If this will be reflected when the ballots are counted, the DP risks losing its grip on its historical stronghold.
Another important factor in Shkodra’s by-elections will be Tom Doshi and his Social Democrat party, whose votes could actually determine the election outcome.
The General Secretary of the Socialist Party Damian Gjiknuri ruled out any collaboration with Doshi’s Social Democrat party.
