The police are running an investigation on recent hits that might’ve allegedly been ordered by inmates serving their time in the prisons of Elbasan, Peqin and Drenava. The news was confirmed by the district chief of police in Elbasan Ardian Cipa, during an interview on Euronews Albania. What is really going on in our prisons?
Cipa was asked about the police operation that took place 2 days ago, resulting in the arrest of over 20 suspects, including existing and former high prison officials.
“We are considering several leads, based on suspicions that inmates could be influencing some of the most serious crime stories,” – said Cipa.
In addition, he explained that this investigation was first launched into a drug trafficking case but evidence led law enforcement to deconstruct a more complicated illegal network that was taking place in our prisons.
This 6-month-investigation conducted by the Elbasan District Police discovered a series of violations taking place in the prisons of Elbasan, Peqin and Drenove, including supplying inmates with illegal drugs, alcohol as well as enabling betting and gambling events within prison quarters.
Meanwhile, a sex worker has been reported to have been going in and out of the prison premises, hiding her identity and posing as a family member.
