Defense minister Niko Peleshi, said that satellites will be multifunctional and that they will be used by the ministry of defense to monitor illegal cannabis fields.

In addition, during his interview for Euronews Albania, Peleshi said that satellites will come in handy for the ministry of agriculture as well, which will be able to monitor agricultural land, while also providing experts with the necessary imagery in case of civil emergencies.

Peleshi also mentioned that satellites were first laughed at or even ridiculed but at the end of the day, they won’t represent something of great measure, nor will they hurt our state budget.

According to our defense minister, groups of experts are working on determining a structure that will be used in the management and maintenance of these satellites.

“So far, we have been able to contract a service that will provide us with high-resolution satellite images on periodic intervals,” – explained Peleshi.

Meanwhile, when asked about the helicopter fleet, Peleshi said that it will ideally include Black Hawks – an advanced type of aircraft.

According to Peleshi, in the next decade, we are expecting to build a dominant airforce that will be equipped with Black Hawks as well as ships, drones, and more military planes.
