PM Edi Rama said earlier today that all 5 Maji residents, whose homes have been demolished, will be compensated regardless of whether or not they are registered as homeowners.
Rama also said that until the entire redevelopment project is complete, residents will be receiving bonus checks that will cover their rent.
“Homes that were built without a permit will be demolished and families who used to live in them will be compensated with a new home,” – said Rama.
Rama also noted that all residents have been notified of the state’s plan to demolish their homes since June 2021.
51 families have already signed an agreement to receive compensation from the state, said the prime minister.
In addition, Rama emphasized that these agreements are completely legitimate and have been registered at the state cadaster.
“These agreements will be registered at the cadaster, as a government liability payable to these residents, and as soon as the new neighborhood is ready, they will be given the keys to their new homes,” – said Rama.
However, residents say they have been given no guarantee.
“We can’t trust a word of mouth. I can’t rely on taxpayers to give me a new home,” – said a resident, whose home has already been taken down.
PM Rama was received by 5 Maji residents this morning before entering the Parliament building. Resdients questioned him on the current situation with their homes and what the future holds for them.
