Former PM Sali Berisha came out with a public message accusing the vetting extension as an act of grand corruption. Before today’s plenum, Berisha confirmed that he will be voting against this new amendment.
In addition, he accused the vetting process of having been used as a tool for ethnic cleansing as well as geographic and religious discrimination.
The former DP leader continued by saying that he will embark on a legal initiative in Parliament that will be centered around protecting the rights of Albania’s homeowners. Furthermore, Berisha underlined that there are currently thousands of unsafe homes in our country.
“Residents are trying to protect their homes, which are being destroyed barbarically by a mob of gangsters dressed in the garments of power. They are being destroyed by a mob that is violating all principles of a legal state and the European Convention of Human Rights,” – said Berisha while commenting on the recent demolition project taking place at the 5 Maji neighborhood in Tirana.
Lastly, Berisha explained that he isn’t against urbanization, but rather, against the violent confiscation of citizens’ property without prior compensation that is in line with the rules of the real estate market.
