Parliament has voted in favour of amending the Constitution, thus extending the mandate of our vetting bodies. Vetting extension is a US-backed initiative that has been vocally supported by many internationals.
The draft bill was passed with 118 votes in favour, 0 votes against and 4 abstentions.
The Democratic Party decided to vote in favour of extending the vetting terms, in exchange for fulfilling its two major conditions: the territorial and the electoral reforms. The decision was made during today’s meeting of DP’s parliamentary group.
Former PM Sali Berisha called this process an act of grand corruption. During his remarks in today’s plenum, Berisha declared that he will vote against this amendment.
Meanwhile, SMI’s leader Monika Kryemadhi declared that she would abstain, along with other SMI MPs except for Agron Cela, who voted in favour of changing the constitution.
