The issue of Bangladeshi workers joining the Albanian labor market has become a much-talked-about phenomenon all over the press lately.

Some think this is a failed experiment, whereas others say that very soon, this workforce will be substituted with another nationality – the Filipinos.

In today’s SOT on Euronews Albania, guests gave their take on the issue of foreign workers coming to Albania from third-world nations.

Nikolin Jaka, chair of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry was asked about how Albania is reacting to this new foreign workforce, to which he replied by saying that the private sector is more than able to meet the salaries required by these workers, which is why the exchange is quite valuable for both sides.

However, he called this new phenomenon a failure for our country.

“This is a failure, and for many reasons. They are using Albania like a trampoline. We should become more self-conscious and hire our own workers instead,” – said Jaka.

On the other hand, Florian Zekja from PRO-Export Albania said that this isn’t a new phenomenon and that the majority of workers are unqualified.

“We realized that the majority of workers from Bangladesh weren’t qualified. The majority simply used Albania as a trampoline to the EU,” – said Zekja.
