High-level corruption, the massive data leak of hundreds of thousands of citizens, as well as the newly established government agencies were among the main concerns raised by the European Commission.

The above are expected to take the center stage during Tuesday’s Stabilization and Association Committee meeting between Albania and the European Union.

Euronews Albania read the agenda of the meeting and a copy of the document prepared by the EU Commission in cooperation with member states.

The Commission raised the alarm on several government agencies, including on Media and Information, on Co-Governance, and that of coordinating donations.

According to the Commission, these agencies were created without making any preliminary assessments on their potential repercussions, have ambiguous functions, and lack the necessary means of holding them accountable.

The Commission is expected to call for an impartial and thorough investigation on the massive data leak, as well as take measures to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

One of the recommendations made by the Commission is to align policies on data protection with those of the EU.

In addition, it urged Albania to achieve tangible results in the battle against high-level corruption backed by the idea that the country needs a new strategy to tackle the widespread phenomenon.

This will be the 12th meeting of the Stabilization and Association Committee which sets Albania’s agenda in its path toward the European Union and provides an assessment of the country’s progress in several areas.
