Six judges of the Constitutional Court voted against president Ilir Meta’s impeachment – a case that was brought to court at the request of the Albanian Parliament.
In addition, only one judge voted in favor of president Meta’s dismissal from all public functions.
The members of the Constitutional Court who voted against Meta’s impeachment were the following: Vitore Tusha, Elsa Toska, Marsida Xhaferllari, Fiona Papajorgji, Perparim Kalo and Sonila Bejtja.
Whereas, judge Altin Binaj was the only one who voted in favor of this dismissal.

In the final ruling issued by the Constitutional Court, judges overturned the parliament’s claims that president Meta’s public statements and behavior – especially during the electoral campaign in April 2019 – weren’t in unison with the thoughts and sentiments of the general public.
In addition, the Court also overturned the parliament’s claims that Meta violated Albania’s relations with our strategic partners through his actions as president.
Moreover, the Parliament’s other claims that president Meta put public safety at risk, while also risking the autonomy of our government institutions, were overturned through a court statement which explained that arguments to prove this, were insufficient.
The briefing room at the President’s Office released a statement shortly after last night’s court ruling, claiming that this came as no surprise, going as far as saying that the trial against president Meta was a waste of time and resources and that it should have never even started in the first place.
