It’s now the 6th day of fighting since Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered a ‘special military operation’ against Ukraine in the early morning hours of Feb 24.

Main developments:
  • A Russian military convoy stretching for over 65 kilometers has reached the outskirts of Kiev, according to the latest satellite images captured by Ukrainian authorities.
  • On Monday, the Ukrainian president Volodymir Zelensky officially announced his application for EU membership.
  • The first round of peace talks between Ukraine and Russia which was mediated by Belarus has officially ended. Delegations from both sides retreated to their respective capital cities, for further consultations that will be discussed during a second round of talks in days to come.
  • The General Assembly of the United Nations convened an extraordinary session, through which they condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
  • Large explosions were heard on Monday morning in the two largest Ukrainian cities of Kiev and Kharkiv, whereas images and video footage of bombings taking place in residential areas are being shared all over social media.
