CEC has asked for the extension of expired identification documents at least until March 6.
The Central Electoral Commission has submitted a written request to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, where it asked for the extension of IDs at least one day after the elections.
Albania’s local by-elections will be held on March 6 for six municipalities.
“As you know, citizens might not have had enough time to renew their expired identifications documents, as the date of the elections was set in a very short time,” – stated CEC in their formal request to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
CEC also underlined that several municipalities that will be participating in the by-elections on March 6 include rural and remote areas, which might discourage potential voters from renewing their IDs in time for the election day.
