The Albanian Competition Authority announced that starting from February 25, they have been monitoring the oil and fuel market – following concerns over unfair price gauging due to the crisis in Ukraine.

However, representatives from this institution have said that they don’t have the authority to monitor prices and regulate them at the same time.

“The majority of competition authorities around the world, including the Albanian one, aren’t set up in a way that allows them to legally fight abusive prices” – they said.

In addition, they maintained that there is a certain legal leeway that may allow them to intervene, in cases when there is enough evidence to prove that certain corporations have signed up for an abusive agreement to either raise or lower prices.
