The Russian Embassy in Tirana has reacted to a declaration made by former PM Sali Berisha on Gazprom.

In a message shared on social media, the embassy claims that it was ‘surprised’ by Berisha’s words’ that he had allegedly refused some 10 years ago a ‘bribe’ from Gazprom for the development of several energy projects in Albania.

“The question that naturally arises is: How much did ask for that even Gazprom could not collect those fabulous amounts”, wrote the embassy in its post.

On Thursday, Berisha claimed that the Russian multinational energy corporation had offered ‘dizzying figures’ for the TAP project, adding that he refused it at the time in order to defend national interests.

“I want to tell to the George Soros’s mafia, that only for TAP, Sali Berisha was offered fabulous amounts, but he stood in defense of the interests of his country and Europe, as I was convinced that Russian gas pliers to Europe were the worst news for Europe and Albania”, Berisha said.
