The first case of bird flu has been confirmed in Albania in a breeding farm in Durres.
The news was confirmed by the ministry of agriculture and rural development.
Authorities began investigations immediately after the ministry received a signal about the unexplained death of numerous chickens.
“Repeated tests and analysis, conducted over the course of several days in the entire country, have officially confirmed the presence of this disease in two different establishments in Durres,” – said the ministry’s notice.
The ministry also explained that the epidemiological investigation suggests that this is an isolated case.
“We’ve put in place a quarantine while instructing the establishments of the various measures and hygienic rules they need to comply with. We’ve taken all the necessary measures to limit the further spread of the disease while also defining a clear perimeter of the area that needn’t be crossed by livestock, animal products, and their by-products,” – continues the notice.
Authorities have underlined that the virus can’t be passed on from birds to humans. However, people are instructed to cook the chicken meat at a temperature over 70°C.
